MINING vs. Mas Precioso Recurso
GRASIAS de Ximena Vera Torres.
Thanks to Ximena Vera Torres for forwarding this article to us. Please send it to your friends to increase awareness of the damage that mining threatens to do to the natural wonders of Mother Earth.

The Energyes of Grand Ma Spider > >A native grandmother observed how a spider wove her web above where >she slept. She thought it was strange, so every night she observed >it before going to sleep; the spider worked really fast, jumping from one place to another with her silver thread. She started with three strokes forming a triangle, and from there she wove a circle >making semi rectangular shapes. Then she dropped down searching for >a succulent morsel, returning to her web, waiting for the moment to >consume her delicious prisoner. Sometimes the flies fell out of her >web alive, but she went quickly for another. Sometimes she waited >to catch something. Every nigth the grandmother was amazed with the >spider’s abilities. In the morning as she sat by her loom, her hands >felt renewed strengh remembering the skills of her sister, the >spider. Beautiful and colorful drawings and designs emerged as her >hands jumped from one place to another. > > One night her grandson discovered the web and wanted to destroy >it. In time, the woman stopped him: > My son, she told him, don’t destroy what Creator has made >through that tiny being, which is our sister Spider. Every night she >teaches me the secrets of the loom where we weave the beautifull >blankets that cover and protect us from the cold breath of the North >wind and the frost of the winter snow. She brings our tribe this >knowledge, so let her continue her work in peace.
> > That night, grandmother had a dream. The spider appeared >thanking her and offered a gift: > Old lady, she said, For having saved my life, I want to give >your tribe a gift. I’ll teach you how to weave a special net >that serves to catch any dreams that keep you from flowing in full >beauty and with the power of the Great Spirit. I’ll teach you to >weave a dream catcher. All the dark dreams that keep you trapped >in ignorance will be caught in the net, and all the luminous dreams >that bring you to realize your most sublime and deep longings will >flow through the center hole. When a child is born, place the dream >catcher over its cradle. Without a doubt, from that moment on >her/his life will be channeled towards the light. You, my darling, >will understand great things. > > The first great teaching the native elder received was a vision >about a little spider jumping in her hand at terrifying speed >weaving a tiny web. The spider was fast and jumped like an acrobat, >spilling her silver thread from a little bag she had underneath. She >kept jumping and then left for the countryside, going into difficult >places. Some words came to mind: fastness, fearlesness, boldness, >happiness, energy, surrender. She was so small that she could go >where big animals, including humans, couldn’t go. So she became >deeply knowledgeable about the mysteries of nature and the >microcosm. She was a real investigator. She was wise. > > The second night she had another dream. This time a big >granmother spider was weaving an huge web among the stars amidst >the cosmos. She was a hairy and powerfull spider. She was the Mother >of all the spiders and told her: > "Look, these silver threads are rays of light that represent the >energy of creativity. The web you make with them is the >manifestation of that energy in life, itself, and of all the worlds >that exist in the universe. The weave you make is ALL OUR RELATIONS, >that which your people know as MYTAKYASE OYASIN, the union that >exists between all beings on all planes, within the self, the >seventh direction, the violet color, unconditional love, and light. >You know well what your ancestors told you in your beautiful home, >the Earth. There is no single atom which is not part of the cosmic >order. Because of this, all beings-- the plants and trees, the >green beings, the four-legged, those who crawl or fly, those who >live underwater, the two-legged, the rocks and crystals, the spirits >of the elements and the Four Directions, and everything you can >touch or see-- have their place and are connected. Nothing is >too much nor too little. Only those who understand this can handle life threads in a good way and weave beautiful dreams that will produce strong and lasting webs that reflect Creator’s wisdom.
Each woven cloth and material has the quality of its weaver. The more >pure, wise and integrated your intention, the better your work will >be, because you will know how to respect each being and put each >energy in its right place.
Therefore, Spirit will give you power to >weave beautifull dreams, a peaceful life full of harmony, love, >abundance, fertility and balance. You will have the speed and >persistence of the spider, the ability to search and resolve, >observe and have the free will to continue weaving your life in a >good way until your last breath, without breeching the cosmic order >which brings Health, Happiness and the joy of knowing that you will >continue weaving in the subtle dimensions beyond your earthly life." > > That is how Grandmother, receiving Spider wisdom, began to >weave into her cloth the Web Dreams where life, itself, is woven >and pass this knowledge to her tribe. Her last creation was a great >cobalt blue shawl full of stars, where the Mother of all Spiders was >weaving the Huge Silver Web where all creatures upon Mother Earth >are united. > > Friend, never stop weaving your web; never stop improving the >quality of your cloth. Let the most beautifull dreams come true! > > AHO MITAKYASE OYASIN > To all our relations >with love > > This tale was inspired by my dear friend and sister, Marisa >Tejada, a beautiful warrior woman from Spain who is the >producer-director of the theater company The Dream Factory. > XIMENA VERA, a South American mestiza, > a keeper of Native American Traditions. > > (c)2005 Ximena Vera Torres (all rights reserved)

HEALING from:Suzy Chaffee Dear Cary: How you doing? Do you know any enlightened kingpins or queenpins of the Ski Patrol, because if they do healing prayers for where people have gotten hurt ... on the mountain, it will help prevent more accidents and reenergize the ley lines that affects the mountains getting rain and snow. So says Bennie LeBeau, the Shoshone who led the medicine wheel around the San Bernadinos, which saved the lakes and forest, and gave skiers the best snow in 150 years. Launching a state of the art Indian holistic health program in the LA area. Luv, Suzy suzynativevoices@aol.com

ATHLETICS ON THE WEST BANK First Report: to RIH from Kim Crane "I ran into a lacrosse player from Chicago who wanted to donate some lacrosse sticks to refugee kids, so we took him to one of Bethlehem’s refugee camps and had a great time teaching the kids how to play... so who knows, maybe lacrosse will catch on in Palestine. I’ve been having an incredible time." Kim Crane spent the summer in Bethlahem, on the West Bank and will report on her experiences here, at RIH, from time to time.

NON-MARTIAL KUNG FU With the "essence of movement", as Chad Fliesher put it, this writer was on Maui in ’97 without the means to join the windsurfers, and so moved along on shore in emulation of what he thought he saw happening on the water, wondering what was common to all of these sports. Joel Castille, Grand Master at the White Phoenix Kung Fu school, says that there are additional health benefits, aside from not getting hit, associated with non-martial movement, and he had already begun the developement of animal forms. Moving in harmony with the currents of Earth’s energy has movements that are universal, and adapted variously among the animals. Watch for further reports of their developement here, and how you may have opportunities to participate.

"KNOW YOUR WATER" - Hopi Indian Wind, Wave, and AQUA FIRMA (sm) PROFITABILITY AND INDIVIDUAL RESPONCIBILITY IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY Part one: A Green conservative makes the case for sustainable developement, invoking the Indian model. Phil Spayd invites your comments. Enviro Report Late morning on a stunning August day I am piloting my two wheeled BMW around central Vermont, passing through Bethel and motoring along the White River and then up Route 100 through Rochester and Hancock, stopping to spend the evening with friends in Granville. The dairy farms and the mountainsides are beautiful beyond words. It is possible to keep these settings like this forever? An Abenakian may have a different view, having lived in what is now Vermont for 10,000 years prior to the arrival of the Europeans. She would not recognize the alien landscape. She might not be too surprised by the farms, the Abenakis themselves having grown corn on expanses approaching 250 acres, but she would barely recognize the trees and other plants that now dominate the central Vermont landscape. The northern white cedar and the other native trees and flowers and ferns nearly all succumbed to the clearing of the land for logging, quarrying, paper production and other commercial development. The mountains look beautiful to me, but the plants and trees are newcomers. They might look line alien invaders to a Native American. Whose status quo is right? There is, of course, no status quo. Change is the iron law of man and nature. It is irredeemable, immutable and unrepentant. Fast forward to 2005. Globalization and outsourcing are at the heart of the economic debate about the future of the United States. The blues say we are sending all our good jobs abroad and exploiting foreign workers, the reds say outsourcing is good for all us and over the long run will make us all wealthier. Is it an "either/or" argument, or is there a possibility that there is value in both arguments? Gnu: Final: Part 2 Integrity in Trade Our view at Global Trade Systems is that outsourcing is an inevitable consequence of market economies, and that some companies will outsource purely to find the absolutely least expensive supplier, while others will do it in a responsible way that serves the interests of the company, its customers, stakeholders and most importantly, as observed by Mr.Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, in a way that protects the company’s resource base-a healthy planet With tariff rates declining and barriers to investment in other countries being lifted, an inexorable condition of our times is that trade among nations will continue to grow and production will shift to countries having a comparative advantage in producing a specific good or service. Almost by definition, companies are created and organized to earn a profit. What can we say about how a responsible corporation carries out its business in a global environment? An individual might say that a company has a responsibility to produce or purchase goods from the countries that have a comparative advantage in producing those goods. That makes the best use of scarce resources, and thus has the potential for the best way to protect the scarce resources that comprise the planet earth. Another person may believe that a company has a responsibility to ensure that the goods it purchases are made in ways that meet international standards for the fair and safe treatment of workers and that it needs to purchase goods that are produced in a way that does not damage the environment. It may be important to another person that a company carries out its operations free from bribery and other illegal activities. And in the face of the threat of international terrorism, nearly everyone agrees that a company needs to ensure that its goods are not compromised in the production and transportation process to allow them to be used to introduce a weapon of mass destruction or other implement of terrorism into the US or any other nation. Forward looking companies will find ways to demonstrate, and ultimately to quantify, their commitment to operating at high standards in these key areas. "Trade Integrity" is a quantified measure of the degree of: supply chain security, social accountability, bribery and corruption, and sustainable environmental practices within a company’s business processes. It is a quantifiable, demonstrable measure which can be shared with US and foreign regulatory agencies, NGOs, customers and other stakeholders. It is an indication of the company’s commitment to safe and secure transactions, and shows that the goods are produced in a socially and environmentally acceptable manner and are free of bribery and corruption. How does an individual consumer make choices that reflect their personal interests and values? It is the collective choices of individuals that ultimately determine the choices that companies make. Transparency-the ability to see clearly into the internal operations (and values) of a company-is the way for consumers to gather information about the business practices of the companies from which they purchase products, and to make choices that reflect their individual values. Individuals need to have ways to quantitatively measure the performance of a company in key areas such as sustainability, environmental responsibility, fair treatment of employees and workers in outsourced operations, bribe-free and corruption-free operations, and safe transportation of goods across international borders. Individuals need to empower themselves with information. They need to make use of the information that is available on the internet and the blogging universe to raise issues, increase their knowledge and demand answers. They need to form the basis for a movement that demands greater transparency in companies’ international operations so they know the shoes they are wearing, the television they are watching and the food they are eating meet their individual standards. Those waiting for the government to act will have a long wait. Those willing to seek out information and make their choices known in the marketplace will see their actions bear fruit.
